Irritated…

EVERY time I try to insert a pic into a post, I have errors.  It drives me up the wall.  I think it has something to do w/this computer, because last time I added a pic I did it on one of the other computers, and had no trouble.  I don’t get it at all.  So, because I am too tired to mess w/it tonight, it will have to wait until tomorrow.  I have a cute pic of Breck’s new Halloween costume, which we just picked up tonight.  It’s a tad bit early, but I wanted to get it before they were picked over, and as it was, there were only 2 sizes left in this one.  We did some shopping at Target, after I got off work, then headed to Jackson’s for dinner .  For the first time in my life I ordered fish and chips, and it was really yummy.  However, I think I ate too much junk today (darn the treats in the teachers’ lounge–I can’t stay away!), so am feeling liked a beached whale.  After dinner we went to Barnes and Noble to look around.  I was going to buy the boys each a book, but Peyton was trying to go for books that aren’t necessarily story books, and certainly not AR books.  AR books are books they can take quizzes on through this program at school.  They have goals set for the # of points they are going to reach each quarter, and have a certain level of books they are supposed to be reading at.  At the beginning of the year they are tested to find out their level, and Peyton tells me his is up to an 8.6!  This means he is reading at an 8th grade, 6th month level!!!  Anyway, because Peyton decided to pout that I wasn’t going to buy him this book, which I’m sure he all ready owns anyway, he opted not to get one at all.  Brecken picked out a Magic Treehouse book, and even though he is in 1st grade, he is actually starting to read chapter books! I’m waiting to get confirmation on his level, but it’s possible he is reading at a 3rd grade level! Once we got home, Peyton gave Breck all his old Magic Treehouse and A-Z Mystery books. I got myself an awesome looking book! It’s “The Looking Glass Wars”, by Frank Beddor. I cannot wait to read it! I just happend to be browsing the teen section, because they have so many cool books, and the title just jumped out at me. I wondered if it would actually be something Alice related, and it was! I am trying to make myself finish Eclipse before I start another book!

Jason got home at a decent hour from bowling, and watched the end of the Cubs game. Needless to say, he was not happy with the results. I hope for his sake, the Cubs kick it into high gear for the next game. Tomorrow night we’ll finally watch Iron Man. We’ve got the last soccer game Saturday, and I guess Jason will be busy blowing out our sprinklers, and 3 other people’s. Hopefully that doesn’t take all day. Breck has a birthday party late afternoon.

Guess that’s all my rambling for now. I will attempt to post pics tomorrow. I have one of the mantis that turned okay, considering I was taking it in low light through a plastic aquarium!

Tuesday night and TV….

Post by: Heather on September 30th, 2008 | File Under Uncategorized

I’m so glad it’s almost Wednesday.  I am totally ready for another weekend!  Today was payday, so I did some first of the month shopping after school.  I do miss being able to take my time and do that in the middle of the day.  It was a little hectic trying to do it right after work and get home in time for dinner.  I did pick up a couple movies on Blu-ray; Iron Man and Sex & The City.  Haven’t seen Iron Man, but have only heard good things about it.  I did see SATC at the theater and it was so awesome!  Jason made these yummy burritos for dinner, and I have leftovers for lunch!  Tomorrow I need to get my oil changed after Peyton’s football game (the last one of the season).  It will be Breck’s last practice, so they are having a parents vs. kids game.  Should be pretty fun!  I think we are tentatively having an end of season pizza party on Monday.  Tomorrow is school picture day.  Being staff, I get pics for free I guess, which is nice, considering how much the kids’ pics are.  Basketball starts after Xmas, and we are hoping Peyton will do that.  I just got Brecken signed up for spring soccer.  They were offering a $40 discount if you signed up before the end of October!

We’ve been slowly getting through our shows that are piling up on the DVR.  Watching Dexter right now.  It’s not too bad so far, but definitely not my favorite episode so far.  Reminds me I need to buy season 2, since i didn’t get it when it first came out.  I finally watched Grey’s, and I loved it, although I was having a small heart attack at the beginning.  Californication was great, and super trashy.  We are really liking True Blood.  I know certain things from reading all the books, and it’s hard to not blurt them out to Jason and ruin something for him!  As far as new shows, we have watched Worst Week, Gary Unmarried, The Mentalist and Fringe.  Fringe is pretty cool, but I am confused, thank you very much JJ Abrams!  The Mentalist was actually really great, and kind of refreshing and different.  The comedy on the other 2 shows seemed a little forced, so I hope that it gets ironed out.  Not sure if we’ll stick w/them.  I have been watching 90210, and it’s not too bad.  I keep coming back, but sometimes the acting really irritates me.  It’s definitely not the caliber of the original.  I’m really anxious for Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy $.  My biggest problem is finding time to watch all this stuff!  I try to get some tv time on Thursdays, when Jason’s at bowling.

Okay, I guess I’ve rambled long enough.  I’m waiting for Jason to finish his poker game online so we can go to bed.  He’s not having much luck going out.

I am off to an interview in the morning, for the 2 para positions at the boys’ school!  I haven’t done a job interview in 10 years, but at least I know my interviewer(s) and have all ready worked at the school, so I shouldn’t be too nervous!  I was debating on if I needed a resume, but before doing this para work at school last year, I had not worked outside of the home for 10 years.  Nothing I did in those jobs 10+ years ago has anything to do with working in a school or with children, and I doubt all the many babysitting jobs I have done for friends over the years have a place on a resume.

We’ve been trying to get back in a bed-time routine for school, but the boys are not thrilled about it at all.  I sure hope attitudes change, because I am about to pull my hair out!  Breck’s been such a monster lately.  He had his friend over here Sat., Sun. and this morning to play.  They had such a good time, mostly playing video games.  Brecken actually went to his house yesterday morning, and 45 min. later he called to ask if they could come back here!  His friend just lives down the street a bit.  This afternoon the boys went to Peyton’s friend’s house to play.  His little brother is the same age as Brecken.  Breck had soccer practice tonight, and his next game is Wed.  Jason will go to the bowling payout thing tomorrow, since I will be at the school.  We really sucked it up the last few weeks, so I don’t know how much, if any, $ we will win.  Tomorrow night is the ice cream social, where the kids can take their supplies in and meet the teachers (which seems so strange to me now, because I know everyone after working there!).  Thursday night I will bake Jason’s cake.  I believe we are having Cincinnati chili for his bday dinner.  I’ve got to finish up my bday shopping on Friday.  Saturday we are going to the Thunder in the Rockies rally in Ft. Collins/Loveland, so Jason can look for a new leather jacket.  There isn’t much to do at the rally (we went last year), so we’ll probably head into Ft. Collins after we’re done browsing the vendors, maybe hit up Whole Foods Market for some tasty cheese.  I got smoked gouda last time I was there, and it was fabulous!  Jason mentioned doing dinner at The Melting Pot, but we’ll have to see about that.  I’m not making a reservation, just in case we decide to do something else.  I will thoroughly enjoy having a 3-day weekend, w/Jason home!  He was gone too many weekends this summer, and it sucked…a lot!

Here’s a pic of Brecken from his game on Saturday.  He did pretty well; just has to learn to be more aggressive.  Tonight at practice he did turn it up a bit!  I don’t think he anticipated that much running!  I mean, it is soccer, but when they play at recess at school, it’s a little different.  I was impressed though, because he played the whole 2nd half without a break, red cheeks and tired legs–I could NOT have done it!  My calves seized up today when I ran down the hill after the boys!  I think Breck looks too adorable in his gear!

A message from Breck, horror movies and rain….

A message from our awesome little man : )

A message from our awesome little man : )

Rain, rain go away…yadda, yadda, yadda. It’s been so dreary today. The temperature hasn’t gotten above 48. Someone needs to tell Mother Nature it is still AUGUST! Indy went to get a much needed, overdue haircut this morning, and he looks and smells so nice! Now if I can keep his time in the rain to a minimum so he continues to smell good. We started taking him to a new groomer in June, recommended by our neighbors, and I really like the place. The price is reasonable, the shampoo they use smells so wonderful, and the people all seem very nice. Before that I had taken him to Petco, and I hated the shampoo they used, how long it took to get an appt., and the unwanted comments from the groomer about how/what I’m feeding my dog.

Last night we watched The Ruins. I had a free rental from Red Box. Do NOT waste your time on this movie. It was dumb, dumb, dumb. I am so glad I didn’t actually pay for it. It was so slow, no subtitles for whatever the Mexicans were saying, and the ending was ridiculous. The “evil vines” were far from scary. A lot of times when we get movies I pick, Jason won’t like it, but I will. However, this one we both agreed on. I have always enjoyed horror movies, but it’s so rare to find a decent one anymore. The first really scary movie I watched was “Nightmare on Elm Street”, courtesy of my cousin Shirley, while visiting her in California (she also let me watch Bachelor Party!). I was 11, and at the time it scared the hell out of me, and I think I covered my face most of the time. However, when I went back and watched it in high school, I laughed at how cheesy it was. I don’t get scared by movies now, but it would be nice to see a movie w/a killer (no pun intended) story line and decent actors.  While I did enjoy The Grudge and The Ring, I found their sequels pointless and a waste of time. I did also watch the Japanese originals of those movies, and it was just hard for me take it seriously. Can’t really find much horror when you have to read subtitles through the whole thing.  That being my little vent, I believe we are going to see Mirrors tonight. I hadn’t even heard of this movie until a couple days ago, and now I am on a mission to see it. Keifer Sutherland is in it, so it can’t be all bad. After all, he is in one of my top 3 favorite movies of all time-”The Lost Boys”. I HOPE I am pleasantly surprised and can come away with a good review.

Jason and I are off to pick up the kiddos tomorrow.  I can’t wait to have them home.  Their rooms are all ready and clean for them, which should last about 5 min. after they get home.  I’m hoping to fill their last few days before school w/some fun stuff!
